About The Elgin Fairlawn

The Elgin Fairlawn is a small heritage hotel in a bungalow built in 1783 at the corner of Sudder Street and Madge Lane, two minutes' walk from New Market. It became a hotel in 1936 and was run for decades by the Smith family, who filled it with photographs and colonial memorabilia; Elgin Hotels took it over in 2018. Rooms are simple and old-fashioned, with ceiling fans and teak armoires alongside air-conditioning, and room 17 is kept as a tribute to actor Shashi Kapoor, a regular guest. Breakfast and afternoon tea are served in the dining room, and the garden terrace is a quiet retreat from the street.
