India's capital layers Mughal monuments, colonial-era avenues and fast-moving modern neighbourhoods into one sprawling city. Delhi is the country's busiest gateway for foreign visitors, so it works equally well as a first stop or a base for trips to Agra and Jaipur. Stay central for monuments and markets, or near the airport corridor for business. Plan around the weather: autumn and early spring are kind, while winter brings smog and summer brings fierce heat.
